Not every dental concern has a clear label. From jaw pain and teeth grinding to broken teeth and sudden toothaches - we are here to listen, assess and find the right solution, whatever the issue.
The mouth, jaw and face form a complex system. When something goes wrong, the symptoms can be confusing - pain that radiates from the jaw to the ear, headaches that seem unrelated to your teeth, clicking or locking of the jaw joint, or teeth that are wearing down without an obvious cause. These issues are real, common and treatable.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders affect the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull. Symptoms include jaw pain, clicking or popping when opening the mouth, difficulty chewing, earache and headaches. Causes range from stress and clenching to bite problems and arthritis. Treatment may include bite splints, physiotherapy exercises, stress management and, in some cases, dental adjustments.
Bruxism - habitual teeth grinding and clenching - is often related to stress and frequently occurs during sleep. Over time, bruxism causes excessive tooth wear, fractures, jaw pain, headaches and disturbed sleep. A custom-made night guard (bite splint) protects the teeth and reduces muscle tension. In some cases, botulinum toxin injections into the masseter muscle can provide additional relief.
Dental emergencies - a knocked-out tooth, a severe toothache, a broken restoration, an abscess - require prompt attention. If you experience a dental emergency, call us immediately. We prioritise emergency appointments and will guide you on first-aid steps to take before you arrive at the clinic.
- 01
Comprehensive consultation
We take a detailed history of your symptoms - when they started, what makes them better or worse, and how they affect your daily life. We examine your teeth, jaw joints, muscles and bite.
- 02
Diagnostic imaging
X-rays, panoramic images or other imaging may be taken to evaluate the jaw joints, tooth roots and bone structures.
- 03
Diagnosis and treatment plan
Based on our findings, we explain the diagnosis in clear terms and present treatment options - which may include splint therapy, dental treatment, medication, exercises or referral to a specialist.
- 04
Treatment
Treatment varies by condition. For bruxism, a custom bite splint is fabricated from impressions of your teeth. For TMJ disorders, treatment may combine splint therapy with jaw exercises and lifestyle modifications. Emergency dental problems are treated immediately.

Follow-up and monitoring
We schedule follow-up appointments to assess your response to treatment, make adjustments as needed and ensure your symptoms are improving.
What causes TMJ disorders?
TMJ disorders can result from stress-related clenching, bruxism, bite problems, trauma to the jaw, arthritis or a combination of factors. A thorough assessment is needed to identify the specific cause in your case.
How do I know if I grind my teeth at night?
Common signs include waking with a sore jaw or headache, flattened or chipped tooth surfaces, tooth sensitivity, and indentations on the tongue or inside of the cheeks. A partner may also notice the grinding sound. Your dentist can confirm bruxism by examining your teeth for characteristic wear patterns.
What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with milk or saline, and try to reinsert it into the socket. If you cannot reinsert it, place it in a container of milk and come to the clinic immediately. Time is critical - the best chance of saving the tooth is within 30 minutes.
Can a bite splint cure bruxism?
A bite splint does not eliminate the habit of grinding, but it protects your teeth from further damage, reduces muscle tension and often alleviates associated pain and headaches. For many patients, consistent splint use combined with stress management provides long-term relief.
Do you treat dental emergencies on the same day?
Yes, whenever possible. If you have a dental emergency - severe pain, a knocked-out or broken tooth, significant swelling - call us immediately. We prioritise emergency appointments and will see you as soon as we can.

Guided Biofilm Therapy
Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a modern, evidence-based approach to professional dental cleaning. Developed by EMS, the protocol follows eight clinically documented steps to remove biofilm, bacteria and tartar with maximum effectiveness and minimum discomfort.

Prophylaxis
Preventive care is the single most important thing we do together. Regular check-ups and professional cleaning reduce your risk of dental disease and help you avoid costly, complex treatment down the road.

Dental Fillings
