IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy with the Lumenis Stellar M22 targets pigmentation, rosacea, vascular lesions and uneven skin tone with precision and safety. One of the world's most advanced and versatile light-based treatment platforms.
The Lumenis Stellar M22 is one of the most advanced and clinically validated IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) platforms in the world. It delivers precisely calibrated pulses of broad-spectrum light that target specific chromophores in the skin - melanin for pigmentation and haemoglobin for vascular concerns - without damaging the surrounding tissue.
IPL is highly effective for treating a wide range of skin conditions, including sun damage, age spots, freckles, melasma, rosacea, broken capillaries, spider veins and general skin redness. The Stellar M22 platform features multiple applicators and filters that allow us to customise each treatment to your specific skin type and concern.
Beyond treating visible imperfections, IPL also stimulates collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in overall rejuvenation - improved texture, reduced pore size and a more even, youthful complexion over a course of treatments.
The treatment is non-invasive, generally well-tolerated and requires minimal downtime. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately, with treated pigment or vessels gradually fading over the following days and weeks.

IPL treatment
Calibrated light pulses are delivered to the treatment area. You may feel a mild warming sensation or a brief snap, similar to a light rubber band. Sessions typically last 15–30 minutes.

Post-treatment review
We remove the gel, apply a soothing moisturiser and SPF, and provide aftercare instructions. Treated pigmentation may appear darker initially before fading.
Mild redness and warmth, similar to a light sunburn, lasting 1–4 hours. Treated pigmentation spots may appear darker initially - this is a normal and expected response.
Treated pigmentation darkens and flakes off over 7–14 days. Vascular lesions fade over 2–4 weeks. Overall skin quality improves progressively throughout the treatment course.
Pigmentation: 1–3 sessions, 3–4 weeks apart. Rosacea and vascular lesions: 3–5 sessions, 3–4 weeks apart. Skin rejuvenation: 3–6 sessions, 3–4 weeks apart.
Minimal. Redness resolves within hours. Darkened pigmentation spots flake off naturally within 1–2 weeks.

A thorough skin assessment is required before your first IPL session to determine suitability and settings.
Is IPL safe for my skin type?
The Lumenis Stellar M22 has multiple applicators and settings that can be adjusted for different skin types. However, IPL is generally most effective and safest on lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–IV). Darker skin types may require alternative treatments. We assess suitability during your consultation.
Why do my pigment spots get darker after treatment?
This is a normal and expected part of the healing process. The IPL energy causes the pigmented cells to rise to the surface. They darken temporarily before flaking off naturally within 7–14 days, revealing clearer skin underneath.
Can IPL treat rosacea permanently?
IPL significantly reduces the redness and visible blood vessels associated with rosacea. While it cannot cure rosacea (which is a chronic condition), regular maintenance sessions can keep symptoms well controlled.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on the condition being treated. Pigmentation may clear in 1–3 sessions, while rosacea and vascular lesions typically require 3–5 sessions. We provide a personalised treatment plan after your assessment.
Why is sun avoidance so important with IPL?
UV exposure stimulates melanin production, which can interfere with treatment results and increase the risk of side effects. Strict sun protection before and after IPL is essential for safe, effective outcomes.
