Preventive care is the single most important thing we do together. Regular check-ups and professional cleaning reduce your risk of dental disease and help you avoid costly, complex treatment down the road.
Preventive dentistry is far more than a routine appointment - it is the foundation of lifelong oral health. Research consistently links the condition of your teeth and gums to systemic health, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and respiratory conditions. By identifying problems at their earliest stage, we can treat them simply and affordably before they escalate.
At Dental & Dermal, we recommend a check-up schedule tailored to your individual risk profile. Some patients do well with an annual visit; others - particularly those prone to tartar build-up or gum inflammation - benefit from appointments every three to six months. Your dentist will advise you on the interval that makes the most sense for you.
We understand that visiting the dentist can feel daunting. Our approach is gentle and unhurried. If you experience dental anxiety, let us know when you book and we will set aside extra time so you feel comfortable and in control throughout the appointment.
Every prophylaxis session concludes with personalised advice on brushing technique, interdental cleaning and diet - small adjustments that make a measurable difference between visits.

Advice and follow-up
We review findings with you, recommend a personalised home-care routine and schedule your next appointment based on your individual risk profile.
How often should I have a check-up?
Most patients benefit from a check-up every six to twelve months. If you are prone to tartar build-up or gum problems, we may recommend every three to four months. Your dentist will advise you based on your individual risk profile.
Does professional cleaning hurt?
Modern instruments like the EMS Planless Scaler and AIRFLOW are designed for comfort. You may feel slight pressure or sensitivity in areas with heavy tartar, but the procedure is significantly gentler than traditional scaling.
Can you help with dental anxiety?
Absolutely. Let us know when you book and we will allocate extra time, explain each step before we begin, and pause whenever you need. Your comfort is always our priority.
Is AIRFLOW safe for crowns and implants?
Yes. AIRFLOW uses a fine powder that is safe for natural teeth, composite fillings, ceramic restorations and implants. It is one of the gentlest polishing methods available.
Will my teeth look whiter after cleaning?
Professional cleaning removes surface staining from coffee, tea and tobacco, so your teeth will often appear brighter. For a more significant colour change, we recommend a dedicated teeth whitening treatment.
