Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening is a safe, effective way to lighten your teeth several shades and remove years of staining. We offer both in-office whitening for immediate results and take-home kits with custom-fitted trays for gradual brightening at your own pace.

Over time, teeth naturally darken due to ageing, diet and lifestyle. Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco and certain foods leave pigment molecules embedded in the enamel that daily brushing cannot fully remove. Professional whitening penetrates the enamel with a controlled bleaching agent that breaks down these stains from within, restoring a cleaner, brighter appearance.

About the treatment

At Dental & Dermal, we offer two complementary approaches. In-office whitening uses a higher-concentration gel applied under controlled conditions for fast, visible results in a single session. Home whitening uses custom-fitted trays made from impressions of your teeth, allowing you to apply a lower-concentration gel at home over one to two weeks for a gradual, natural-looking improvement.

Before any whitening treatment, we examine your teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy and that whitening is appropriate. Cavities, exposed roots and active gum disease must be addressed first. We also discuss realistic expectations - whitening works beautifully on natural enamel but does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or composite fillings.

Results vary depending on the starting shade and the cause of discolouration, but most patients achieve a noticeably brighter smile that lasts six months to two years with good maintenance.

How it works
  1. 01

    Assessment

Your dentist examines your teeth and gums, checks for cavities or sensitivity, and records your current shade using a standardised shade guide.

  2. 02

    Cleaning

A professional cleaning is performed to remove plaque, tartar and surface staining. This ensures the whitening agent contacts the enamel directly for optimal results.

  3. 03

    Whitening application

For in-office treatment: a protective barrier is applied to the gums, then a professional-grade bleaching gel is applied to the teeth and activated. For home treatment: custom trays are fabricated from impressions of your teeth and delivered with whitening gel and instructions.

  4. 04

    Monitoring and result

In-office whitening takes approximately 60–90 minutes. The result is visible immediately. Home whitening produces gradual improvement over 7–14 days. Your dentist reviews the final result and discusses maintenance.

Frequently asked questions
Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes. Professional whitening uses clinically tested bleaching agents at concentrations proven to be safe for enamel and soft tissue. Over-the-counter products carry more risk because they are not supervised and may not fit properly.

How white will my teeth get?

Results depend on your starting shade, the cause of discolouration and the method used. Most patients achieve a noticeable improvement of several shades. Your dentist will discuss realistic expectations during your assessment.

Will whitening damage my enamel?

No. Professional whitening agents are formulated to penetrate enamel safely without causing structural damage. Temporary sensitivity is common but resolves quickly and does not indicate harm to the tooth.

How long do the results last?

With good oral hygiene and avoidance of heavy staining, whitening results typically last six months to two years. Periodic touch-ups with your home trays can maintain the brightness indefinitely.

Can I whiten crowns or veneers?

No. Whitening agents only work on natural tooth enamel. If you have visible crowns or veneers, we may recommend whitening your natural teeth first, then replacing the restorations to match the new shade.
